The Thinker 11
Meaning: The sculpture shown is “The Thinker (French: Le Penseur), a bronze sculpture by Auguste Rodin, usually placed on a stone pedestal. The work shows a nude male figure of over life-size sitting on a rock with his chin resting on one hand as though deep in thought, and is often used as an image to represent philosophy.”12
“I think therefore I am” – “Cogito ergo sum[a] is a Latin philosophical proposition by René Descartes usually translated into English as "I think, therefore I am". As Descartes explained, "[W]e cannot doubt of our existence while we doubt ... ." Descartes asserted that the very act of doubting one's own existence served—at minimum—as proof of the reality of one's own mind; there must be a thinking entity—in this case the self—for there to be a thought.”13
God chose this particular statement because it speaks of what He is trying to say. I think (man has reason) therefore I am (a child/life of God). This is further explained in the last chapter, chapter 22.
As God said:
“Jonathan Livingston Seagull, written by Richard Bach, is a fable in novella form about a seagull learning about life and flight, and a homily about self- perfection.”14
